Why should you, and how do you use Pinterest for your Business?

It’s no secret we love Pinterest here at Double Tap.

Over the last 2-3 years the changes on Pinterest have been HUGE!

The platform is still known and loved for providing an abundance of inspirational ideas and content, but what some people don’t realise is how the platform has evolved into a shopping platform.

Pinners (Pinterest Users) are on the platform with intent, they are on there looking for ‘something’ - it could be an idea, a recipe, fashion inspiration for the upcoming season or because they’re planning an event or occasion.

Pinterest users are intentional.

There is less mindless scrolling…

And how about these stats?!

  • There are +8m monthly active users in Australia (+400m worldwide)

  • 84% of users use Pinterest when trying to decide what to buy

  • 77% have found a new product or brand on Pinterest

  • 80% of pinners say they are ‘always shopping’ when on the platform

  • People on Pinterest have 40% larger baskets at checkout

  • 97% of searches on Pinterest are unbranded

Unlike the other social media platforms Pinterest is an SEO keyword driven platform, meaning there’s no algorithm as such, and instead you’re relying on search terms, keywords and pin descriptions to get your content in front of the right people.

So how do you get started? What are the first steps?

Why should you, and how do you use Pinterest for your Business?
  1. If you don’t already, sign up for Pinterest and then swap your account over to a business account

  2. Claim your accounts - under settings, you will need to link your Pinterest and your Website

  3. Follow the steps here to set up your Pinterest shop.

You can start pinning before the shop is set up, however keep in mind your pins will not be shoppable, you can of course include the link to the item in the description however for a flawless user experience we WANT the shop to be set up properly.

Now it’s time to create some content - or ‘Pins’ as they’re known on Pinterest.

Why should you, and how do you use Pinterest for your Business?

There are two main types on Pinterest, an Idea Pin and a Pin.

‘Pins’ are kind of what’s been around on Pinterest forever, they’re your evergreen content, they’re clickable and shoppable.

‘Idea Pins’ have only been introduced more recently, Pinterest is really encouraging video content Idea Pins so really focus on creating engaging, informative content here.

Idea Pins are not clickable (it won’t direct you to a URL) however they are shoppable so you can include your product tags in these, add your URL to the description so people can copy and paste if wanted.

Idea Pins are great for growing brand awareness and a following.

Pins are great for generating more website traffic and building your brand.

And a few last things to note…

Re-pinning is out! As a business Pinterest does not want to see you repinning, Pinterest wants fresh, new ideas from brands.

If you want to save something for later, pin it to a private board.

Pinterest is hungry for video content, repurpose some of your TikTocs and Reels as Idea Pins - just ensure you change the description so they are keyword rich.

You can pin your Instagram content to Pinterest however you are far better off to resize that content to suit Pinterest specs and write a new, keyword rich pin description for that post/pin - sending directly from Instagram is a missed opportunity.
